async – first light is a collaboration between Apichatpong and the composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, built on combined tracks from Sakamoto’s album async. Natural and artificial lights bloom in settings at the artist’s home and abroad. Apichatpong also sent small cameras to friends and asked them to film themselves and their loved ones sleeping. The work is a journey, and a yearning for connection through light, cinema and dreams.

The film includes a poem by Arseny Tarkovsky, read by David Sylvian.
